Extraction of Spatial Information in the Environmen of Irish Roads Using Airborne Laser Scanning
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes the first phase of a three year PhD research project which aims at extracting road and roadside information accurately and robustly from airborne sensor data and assessing its suitability for integration in a spatial analysis system. The context for this research is road safety and the requirements of the European noise directive for noise mapping. Phase 1 concentrated on using existing and widely available software and techniques for extracting spatial information from LiDAR data. Geometric and raster approaches were used. Results are encouraging indicating that existing systems and techniques can yield roadside objects successfully with appropriately designed workflows. However the degree of automation is limited. Phase 2 of the research, which has just begun, will address the combination of LiDAR with other sensor data and attempt to improve the degree of automation through the development of specialist algorithms. * Corresponding author.

Algorithms and Methods of Airborne Laser Scanning for Forest Measurements
Extracting forest variables from airborne laser scanner has less than 10 years of history. During that time, however, a new area in the field of forest studies has emerged. This paper describes existing algorithms and methods of airborne laser scanning that are used for forest measurements. The methods are divided into the following categories: 1) extraction of DTM (digital terrain model), 2) e...
متن کاملHierarchical Image Object-based Structural Analysis toward Urban Land Use Classification Using High-resolution Imagery and Airborne Lidar Data
High-resolution remotely sensed imagery and airborne laser altimetry data offer exciting possibilities for feature extraction and spatial modelling in urban areas. In this study, hierarchical image objects have been generated by image segmentation based on IKONOS imagery and laser scanning data using semantically meaningful thresholds. Delaunay triangulation and morphological image analysis tec...
متن کاملForest Inventory and Biomass Assessment by the Use of Airborne Laser Scanning Method (example from Siberia)
The use of aerial laser scanning method provides a number of principally new possibilities on remote sensing of forest vegetation and specifically of a disturbed forest ecosystems (after wild fires, logging operations, insect outbreaks etc.) which area increases year by year in Siberia. The high efficiency of laser sensing survey (up to 50-70 thousand original measurements per second) combining...
متن کاملObject-based Analysis of Airborne Laser Scanning Data for Natural Hazard Purposes Using Open Source Components
Geoinformation is an important basis for planning strategies, natural hazard modelling, process detection, and risk analysis. Airborne Laser Scanning is an operational working method for area wide data acquisition and provides 3D information in a high spatial resolution. The data contains detailed information to characterise surface properties which is, however, not obvious to extract from the ...
متن کاملEffect of Wavelet Compression on the Automatic Classification of Urban Environments Using High Resolution Multispectral Imagery and Laser Scanning Data
This paper examines the influence of data fusion and wavelet compression on the automatic classification of urban environments. The principal data used is airborne Daedalus scanner imagery. Laser scanning data is introduced as an additional channel alongside the spectral channels thus effectively fusing the local height and multispectral information. The feature base is expanded to include both...
